Privacy, Confidentiality and Anonymity in the digital world

Privacy Policy on Instagram:

Physical Privacy – When creating a new account with Instagram a user needs to make a new password so that nobody can easily access your account, make fake posts, steal your information or pretend to be you because your account is protected by that password that was created. Instagram also implements two-way authentication which needs an additional source of verification besides the password you made before granting access to your account – usually when you log in from a new device. The second verification is often a code sent to your device. This is a good way to ward off hackers.

Mental Privacy – Instagram allows its users to decide who is able to message them or who they are able to message and therefore avoiding mental disturbance. You are also allowed to block or report any abuse on your account and also report any inappropriate posts or comments made by another account.

Decisional Privacy – Instagram gives its users the option when creating their accounts of whether their account’s activities are private or public. Public accounts allow everyone to see your activity and private accounts only allow its accepted followers to view their activities.

Information Privacy – When a user creates a new account Instagram requires its users to fill in personal details about themselves like their full name, location, date of birth, email address and contact number, these details are not visible to the public and your location is not kept updated without your consent. Also, when a user sets up their Instagram profile after creating their account, Instagram does not require an actual photograph of the user to be their profile picture and it can be left blank if the user desires so.
